I’ve been thinking about attending an online school but I’m not sure about it. ?

Randy asked:

Does anyone know if online schools are just as good as the normal ones that you go to five days a week? I’m currently a 9th grader and I’ve been thinking about going to an online school called Minnesota Virtual Academy that my friend goes to. He said that it was easy and and by the video I saw of it and the stuff I read about it, it seams like great way to learn. Already at the school I go to I get B’s but I think I’d learn a lot more and do better going to an online school. Another concern I have is the opportunities my current school offers like arts classes like choir that I’m currently enjoying where you’d need to be there and other classes an online school wouldn’t be able to offer would I be able to take something like some classes in college after all in college I wouldn’t want to feel behind or could I do something out of school for classes like that? I’ve already scheduled an appointment with my counselor to talk about it two days from now but I think a few opinions would be great.

Don’t do it…online schools are great for those who need the advanced degree in the workplace for a higher paying position. Trust me when I say that anything “easy” is not going to pay any dividends. Also, online credits do not transfer to a traditional school if you decide to change or pursue an advanced degree later in life. Go to a traditional college and stick with it for four years…it’ll be worth it. Believe it or not, you’ll learn more with human interaction versus online. If you’re a student who needs more attention, go to a smaller liberal arts schools versus a big state college. Example: Macalester College versus the U of Minnesota
